THE KIDDERMINSTER Town Hall Transformation project is delivering over twice the agreed social value for the project.
The project aims to renovate the Town Hall so it can be used as a community meeting and cultural venue, rather than just a concert and events centre.
‘Social value’ in construction refers to the potential benefits a project can offer both the local and wider community.
Speller Metcalfe Ltd. are the contractors taking on the project – it has employed eight local employees, and engages 17 local subcontractors full time for the duration of the project.
It has provided local skills and support through employment fairs, local schools and collages visits and hired apprenticeships.
Councillor John Beckingham, chairman of the Council’s Town Hall Committee said that the Town Hall project could deliver a boost of 3million pounds to the local economy.
He added: “It’s great news to hear that the contractors on the project are achieving such high levels of social value through using local employment and using local suppliers.
“This is a really valuable boost to our local economy and another benefit to the community resulting from this exciting project.
“I would like to thank the contractors for making this happen and also all involved with the Levelling Up Fund and the local regeneration team, as well as our own Town Council staff.
“We are all looking forward to the completion of the project, when the Town Hall will become a treasured asset for all the community, providing great civic, cultural, educational, leisure and entertainment opportunities for the people of Kidderminster.”
Matt Smith, Town Hall Manager, said he is thrilled to announce the upcoming public opening of the newly transformed Kidderminster Town Hall in September 2025.
He added: “This ambitious project, delivered by Speller Metcalfe, has successfully preserved our historic building while introducing significant enhancements, including a modern café, an upgraded music hall, and improved accessibility.
“We are particularly proud to have exceeded our social value targets.
“Our efforts have created £821k in job opportunities and employability benefits, alongside £2.13million in support for local businesses.
“This project highlights our steadfast commitment to community collaboration and environmental sustainability, including substantial contributions to local initiatives and our pledge to achieve net zero carbon by 2050.
“We look forward to the positive and lasting impact this revitalized space will have on our community.”
