THE MAYOR of Stourport, Coun John Thomas, was re-elected to serve another term last Thursday.
Coun Thomas was re-appointed at the Mayor Making and Coun Tim Berry was named as his deputy mayor.
Coun Thomas was born in Stourport and has lived there ever since. He ran a business in Stourport and then worked for one of the town’s prominent local companies before it closed and he retired.
He was first elected a councillor in 2007 and is currently a Stourport Town Councillor for the North Ward. He has previously been a Wyre Forest District Councillor (WFDC) for the Areley Kings and Riverside Ward and a cabinet member on WFDC between 2019 and 2023 and a county councillor.
Away from his council roles, he serves as a governor at a local school and is a trustee of Areley Kings Village Hall.
Another trustee role he holds is on the Margaret Westwood Memorial Charity which makes grants to support the physical, educational or moral welfare and benefit of children and young people, up to the age of 25, who reside in Worcestershire.
Coun Thomas’ daughters – Sarah Canty and Maria Thomas – will be sharing the role of Mayoress.
He will be deciding his chosen charities in due course.
Following the re-election, several people had their say on Stourport Town Council’s Facebook page.
