A MUM from Worcester is taking on a 106km (65-mile) ultramarathon around the Isle of Wight this May to raise funds for the Maternity Bereavement Suite at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Andrea Dovey and her family were supported by the suite when her son died at just two hours old. During that time Andrea and her husband Bill, with the support of the Bereavement Suite, were able to create precious memories before saying goodbye.
Now, 18 months after Kit’s passing, Andrea is determined to give back to the team that helped her family navigate their grief.
Training daily with family friend Ruth Busby, she has set herself the ultimate challenge—not just physically, but emotionally too.
Andrea said: “I wanted to do something that pushes me and something for Kit, as Kit will never be able to do anything like this—that’s why I want to do it for him.”
Andrea and Ruth have already smashed their initial fundraising target and are well on their way to reaching their next milestone of £10,000.
Their dedication and determination are truly inspiring, and every pound raised will help provide comfort and care to families experiencing the unimaginable.
Laura Gregory, community and events fundraising officer at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, said: “We are delighted that Andrea and Ruth have chosen to take on this incredible challenge in support of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity.
“Their efforts will make a real difference to families facing the unimaginable, and we are honoured to support them on this journey.”
