NEW HOBBY? - Event to showcase Bewdley's community and leisure groups

Tristan Harris 27th Feb, 2025

A NEW Local Groups Community Showcase is coming to Bewdley and surrounding villages this March, writes Aidan Kilcullen.

The event will be held in St Anne’s Church from 9.30am to 11.30am on Thursday, March 13 and is perfect for new residents of the area who wish to learn more about social groups and hobbies or be a part of their community.

Wyre Forest District Council has gathered more than 25 groups which are hoping to welcome new members, such as Bewdley Tennis Club, Ellie’s Little Gems, Bewdley Bellringing, All Saint’s Church knitting group, Bewdley Rotary Club and many more.

A member of St Anne’s Church’s 4Cs scheme (coffee, cake, company and conversation) Elaine Barbour said: “Bewdley is a fantastic community to be a part of.

“There are so many groups, from those offering help and friendship to those working to promote a better world for everyone.

“This event is a great opportunity to get a taste of whats on offer, especially for those who might be new to the area.

“You’ll get a warm welcome and plenty of time to chat over tea and coffee and of course homemade cake.”

Coun Tracey Onslow, Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet member for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Community Safety, will be attending the event.

She said: “Local groups are at the heart of our communities and make a real difference to the lives of many residents.

“The Local Groups Community Showcase is a great way for visitors to find out how to get involved, whether they want to learn a new skill, get active, or meet like-minded people in the area.”

Anyone interested in attending should contact Wyre Forest District Council’s community builder Elaine Halford-Bishop on 01562 732527 or at [email protected] for more information.
