AN OUTDOOR service will be held in Bewdley on August 15 to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.
The event will take place outside the entrance to Bewdley Museum at 10.45am and there will be refreshments afterwards at St Anne’s Church.
As a mark of respect the VJ Day flag will be flown at St Anne’s War Memorial which will be illuminated in the week leading up to the commemoration and for the weekend afterwards – from July 11 to 15.
The event has been organised by Wyre Forest District Council.
VJ Day or Victory over Japan Day, is the day Japan officially surrendered to the Allied forces, marking the end of the Second World War.
It took place on August 15, 1945.
After the war ended in Europe (VE Day), the conflict continued between the Allies and the Japanese.
