PICTURE SPECIAL - Check out what schools in Kidderminster and Stourport did to celebrate VE Day 80

AS STREET parties and other events commemorated the 80th anniversary of VE Day last Thursday, schools across Kidderminster and Stourport held their own celebrations to mark the occasion.

Students of all ages – from the lower years to sixth-formers – learned about the importance of the historic day when people paused to reflect sacrifices made by soldiers and civilians during the Second World War and toasted Victory in Europe.

At Stourport Primary Academy, the children tied red ribbons onto the school railings and fences to remember the lives lost for everyone’s freedom.

They also played 1940s games including hula hoop, and enjoyed a picnic in the sunshine.

Pupils at Stourport High School’s newly-formed choir, named VOX, performed at the town’s VE Day celebration in War Memorial Park.

Youngsters at Hartlebury CE Primary School dressed for the period (pictured above), and staged a victory singalong to entertain their families with a series of classic wartime tunes.

Children at Far Forest Lea Memorial CE Primary Academy in Kidderminster also tucked into a picnic for lunch. Thanks to the support of the Parents’ and Teachers’ Assocation (PTA), the tables were creatively set out in the school grounds to spell ‘VE’.

Children at Wilden All Saints CE Primary School in Stourport wore red, white and blue and had fun dancing on the playground.

And youngsters at St Bartholomew’s CE Primary School, Areley Kings, had special lessons and activities which included decorating jars as tea-light holders. They also learned about the day and thought about those who died in the Second World War.
