THIS YEAR’S Kidderminster Canal and Food Festival has been hailed a great success after thousands of people turned out for the event.
The extravaganza, which took place on Saturday and Sunday boasted a multitude of street food, sweet treats, cocktails and craft ales.
There was also an artisan market, family funfair rides, face-painting an arts and crafts bus, roaming characters and a butterfly stilt walker blowing bubbles.
Live music ranged from top tribute acts to Queen, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars and reggae and motown performers to local legends RetsecroWs and Kev Donaldson.
The event was hosted by FAB Food Fest with Kidderminster BID and was free to attend as people of all ages descended on the town.
James Barker, from Kidderminster BID, told the Standard: “We were worried beforehand because of the weather warnings but that did not put people off.
“We had a fair few thousand throughout the weekend. By 11am on the Saturday, the place was packed, the crowds were heaving and we had a steady flow throughout the day.
“Even on the Sunday, when the weather wasn’t as good, we feared people might be deterred from coming down.
“But that was not the case the people of Kidderminster stood their ground and came out in their droves to support the event on both days.
“We could not have asked for anything more.
“We’d like to say a massive thank you to Mark Cookson from FAB Food Fest who was phenomenal – the event would not have been such a success without him.”
Coun Doug Hine, the Mayor of Kidderminster, was there with the Lady Mayoress, Ros.
He said: “The food and entertainment was excellent and enjoyed by a good crowd.
“Well done to FAB Festivals and Kidderminster BID for organising the event.
“The town can look forward to several more outdoor events this year.”
