BEWDLEY Town Council has shared the latest update on the construction of a flood risk management scheme.
Work by the contractor on the Bewdley Left Bank Flood Risk Management Scheme is progressing well.
The major milestone for last week at Beales Corner was the arrival of the glass panel components on site.
The contractor is already starting to install these components along the flood wall.
The glass panels will bring the flood wall up to full height once installed.
The necessary tests have already been completed for the glass panels at an off-site testing centre.
Among them were a ‘static leakage test’ – this is where water is held against the panels to a required level to test for leakage of the seals – and a ‘dynamic impact test’ when a heavy object is released and hits into the panels to test their durability with water next to them.
A ‘current leakage test’ has also been carried out. This is where a turbulent flow of water is forced past the screen.
This technique is also used to test the seals and ensure they are water tight. Watch some of the testing in the video below.
Over the bank holiday weekend, Severn Trent Water made improvements to the current drainage system.
A one-way traffic measure was put in place while this work was carried out.
The Bewdley Left Bank Flood Risk Management Scheme is being co-ordinated by the Environment Agency.
