Warning issued as rising temperatures and dry conditions spark outdoor fires across Worcestershire

THE FIRE service has issued a warning about outdoor blazes after crews were called to several across the county in the past week.

A lack of rain and the land drying out has led to some outdoor fires getting out of control.

The temperature was 19°C in Evesham and Pershore today (Thursday) and is set to reach 22°C tomorrow (Friday).

Then, despite temperatures predicted to fall to 17°C in the coming days, no rain is forecast for the next five.

On Monday, a blaze started in a cigarette bin in Swan Lane, Evesham, and fire crews were called in to deal with it.

A deep-seated fire broke out in a large tree trunk at 5.31pm on Tuesday in Hanley Swan, Malvern, which led to firefighters having to cut away parts of the tree, extinguish the flames and dampen it down so it would not reignite.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We urge people to refrain from using disposable barbecues and safely put out cigarette ends to avoid inadvertently starting a fire.”

The service also discourages outdoor fires in rural areas.

Anyone using incinerators, log burners and bonfires should keep them away from fences, foliage, buildings and bushes and always keep buckets of water nearby.
