A KIDDERMINSTER business says it is still being impacted on by roadworks following the burst water mains which happened in the town a fortnight ago.
The mains pipe burst in Green Street on June 27 caused mass flooding in that road and the surrounding areas.
Severn Trent spent most of the weekend fixing the pipe and roadworks were needed – both because of the ferocity of the water and the need to gain access to the mains.
Some of the roads have been shut since then and are still closed now.
One of the businesses – Foynes Carpets on the New Road Complex – told the Standard it had severely impacted on the business because it had caused access issues for potential customers.
The shop has been in the town since 1983 and, although Christmas is its busiest time of year, many people do still buy their products, including carpets and flooring.
Dean Martin, who works there, said: “The access is the main issue – they have made the ‘one way street’ two way when you come off the ring road but it has not helped much.
“Trade has dropped off drastically over the past two weeks – it has been a nightmare.”
He added he had looked at the roadworks in the past couple of days and it all looked ready to open so it was frustrating that it was still shut.
“We were told it would be reopening today (Friday, July 11), so we’re hoping that’s the case.”
The Standard has contacted Worcestershire Highways for an update and is awaiting a response.
