WORCESTERSHIRE County Council’s Learning Services are now enrolling for September, offering 16 to 19-year-olds more choice beyond Year 11.
Young Adult Learning Worcestershire (YAL Worcs) provides inclusive and flexible learning opportunities for those aged up to 24 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
YAL Worcs is designed for people seeking an alternative to mainstream college or sixth form routes who want to achieve and succeed in a more informal and supportive environment.
Operating from two locations, Warndon in Worcester and Church Hill in Redditch, YAL Worcs deliver a range of personalised study programmes, traineeships, and supported internships which are designed to help learners gain confidence, qualifications, and experience that prepare them for further education or employment.
Both centres provide a calm and friendly atmosphere with smaller class sizes and a focus on tailored support.
Kelly Champion, the county council’s manager of the Young Adult Worcestershire programme, said: “This September we’re offering an inclusive alternative for those learners who feel like a big college setting isn’t quite right for them.
“After high school, we offer a fresh start for learners who are ready to focus, to achieve, and want to succeed.
“There is an emphasis on wellbeing and it offers a curriculum that works for them.
“We offer more flexible learning to offer our young adults more control over what, when and how they learn.
“This personalised approach is exactly what some learners need to stay motivated and make progress towards their goals.
“At Young Adult Learning Worcestershire, we like to say we’re not college, we’re not sixth form, we’re just the right fit.
“I encourage anyone interested in Young Adult Learning Worcestershire to get in touch and find out more about our study options and how we can support their young learner.”
YAL Worcs study programmes are classroom-based and designed around an individual learner’s previous qualifications and goals.
Traineeships combine education with extended work experience placements to support those aiming to move into apprenticeships or jobs.
YAL Worcs also offer 12-month supported internships for young people with an EHCP who are ready to take a step into the workplace with some additional support.
These internships, delivered in partnership with the NHS, include job-based learning at Worcestershire Royal and Redditch’s
Alexandra hospitals and provide experience across several departments, leading to a guaranteed interview upon completion.
