Worcestershire doctor laces up her running shoes to raise cash for Kidderminster Hospital

A DEDICATED Worcestershire doctor is swapping her scrubs for running shoes as she takes on the 2025 London Marathon to raise funds for vital equipment at Kidderminster Hospital, writes Mia Whitehouse.

Dr Jo Marriott, who lives just outside Bromsgrove, will take on the 45th London Marathon on Sunday April 27, tackling the 26.2 miles from Greenwich to Westminster, to help enhance care for Worcestershire’s youngest patients.

Dr Marriott, a consultant anaesthetist at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, aims to raise the cash for a child-friendly MRI service that she has been working tirelessly towards for the past two years.

She said: “Running the London Marathon has always been on my bucket list, and after securing a ballot place, I want to make every mile count by raising funds for this much-needed MRI-compatible trolley.”

The service is set to open this summer, and additional equipment such as the £8,160 MRI-compatible trolley will be essential to making it as comfortable and efficient as possible.

By Dr Marriott running in support of the Worcestershire Acute Hospital Charity, a difference can be made for the patients, families, and staff at the county’s three hospitals, the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre and the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Laura Gregory, the community and events fundraising officer at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Jo has chosen to take on the incredible challenge of the London Marathon in support of Worcestershire Acute Hospital Charity.

“Her dedication to improving care for young patients perfectly reflects our mission to enhance hospital experiences for patients, their families, and NHS staff.

“Every step she takes will bring us closer to providing the very best acute hospital care for our community and we’re proud to support her fundraising efforts.”

Every donation will help to make this vital service a reality and to ensure we go the extra mile for young patients in Worcestershire.
