YOUNGSTERS from Kidderminster’s Little Trinity Nursery found out about the importance of literacy with a host of activities for World Book Day.
The event, always celebrated on the first Thursday in March, sees children dress up as their favourite storybook and fictional characters and take part in a range of reading and learning activities.
The children at Little Trinity engaged in a number of themes with the Yellow Bumble Bees, children aged two to three, focusing on topics such as Tractor Ted, farming, animals, growing, cooking, and making carrot soup.
The Red Ladybirds, children aged three to four years, engaged in activities relating to Paddington Bear, such as creating paper plate bears, masks, and making marmalade for their marmalade sandwiches.
Nursery manager Gaynor Carter said: “Gosh it’s always lots of fun with dressing up and stories to read as we celebrate World Book Day which provides opportunity and excitement to explore books, storytelling, and physical learning through play.
“We’re passionate about encouraging them to engage in a range of themed activities that not only make learning fun but helps in their overall development.”
‘Inspiring young minds’
World Book Day is celebrated globally and is seen as an important calendar event that encourages, enriches and inspires young minds.
Gaynor added: “Through themed reading and play, they learn about others, whilst discovering more about themselves and their friends.
“World Book Day is a cornerstone in the journey for children to develop a love of reading and places focus on its importance as a crucial academic and life skill for learning.”
