ARRAN Gulliver, from Bewdley, helped Great Britain’s four-man bobsleigh team win World Cup gold in Winterberg, Germany.
The crew of Gulliver, Brad Hall, Taylor Lawrence and Greg Cackett won a historic gold medal in the blue riband event.
GB made the perfect start to the New Year as the quartet became the first non-German crew to triumph in Winterberg since Russia’s Alexander Zubkov in 2012.
Gulliver, Hall, Lawrence and Cackett were making their first start together for 13 months and the GB crew went fastest in both of their heats
And the quartet clocked a combined time of 1 minute 48.07 seconds to finish 19 hundredths of a second ahead of reigning back-to-back Olympic champion and six-time four-man world champion Francesco Friedrich on his home ice.
The win marked GB’s first since the same crew tasted victory in Altenberg in January 2023.
Gulliver only joined British Bobsleigh in the summer of 2022 and won gold in his first-ever race at the North American Cup in Whistler.
Just a month later, he won World Cup silver at the same track before clinching World Cup gold in Lake Placid in only his fourth race in the sport.
He finished his first season with seven World Cup medals from eight races, including three gold medals, to win combined bronze overall.
Alongside Hall, Lawrence and Cackett, Gulliver made history as the crew became GB’s first-ever European champions.
The foursome made more history in February 2023, winning GB’s first four-man bobsleigh World Championship medal since 1939 with silver in St Moritz.
Injury restricted Gulliver to a single race appearance in 2023/24.
