KIDDERMINSTER CC failed to end their winless start to the season following a four-wicket home defeat against Coventry and North Warwickshire.

The hosts posted 233 all out as Daniel Lategan and Nathan Jukes both hit half-centuries in vain at Chester Road.

The visitors reached the required total with four wickets to spare as Akshaykumar Patel finished unbeaten just seven runs short of a century.

Kidderminster remain bottom of the Birmingham and District Premier League Premier Division Two table having failed to win any of their opening six matches this season.

Coventry won the toss and elected to field and quickly removed Kidderminster opener Lucas Ingram (4) before Sameer Vohra (3-67) trapped Ben Gibbon (20) LBW.

Lategan (78) and Jukes (59) combined for a 118-run third-wicket partnership with Ben Griffin (38) the only other batter to reach double figures.

Coventry’s Gursimrat Singh (5-44) did the damage with the ball as he claimed a five-for.

However, Kidderminster took quick wickets at the start of the Coventry innings and had the visitors in trouble on 89-5.

Only Arun Kalsi (40) reached double figures of Coventry’s top order batters before Patel came to the crease and led the recovery.

Patel (93 not out) scored at a rate of almost a run-a-ball and put on 143 runs for Coventry’s sixth-wicket alongside Danyaal Malik (57).

Kidderminster are next in action against West Bromwich Dartmouth on Saturday, June 7 with the game to begin at 12pm(midday) at Sandwell Park.
