WORCESTERSHIRE County Cricket Club have confirmed they will retire the number 33 shirt in memory of former player Josh Baker who died earlier this year.

Baker died at the age of 20 in May having made 47 appearances for the Pears across all formats of the game. The promising left-arm spinner and lower-order batter made his first-class debut for the County against rivals Warwickshire in July 2021.

A framed ‘Baker 33’ shirt will be permanently on display in the Graeme Hick Pavilion. The club will also install a metal bench with Baker’s locker plaque at the training nets to honour his contribution to Worcestershire.

It marks the first time Worcestershire have officially retired a shirt number in the club’s history.

Worcestershire CEO, Ashley Giles, said: “Josh was not only an outstanding cricketer but an exceptional individual.

“His passing has left an irreplaceable void at our club and in the hearts of all who knew him.

“Retiring the Number 33 shirt, for the first time in our club’s history, ensures his memory and contributions are never forgotten. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations.”

Worcestershire also awarded Baker’s parents, Paul and Lisa, with life memberships at the club.
