IDDERMINSTER Harriers will be looking to make it five consecutive wins when Peterborough Sports visit Aggborough Stadium on Saturday, writes Neil Gordon.
Harriers will also be hoping that leaders Scunthorpe United slip-up at home to Southport and enable them to claim top spot in the National League North.
The Reds have reduced the gap on Scunthorpe from eight points with a game in hand, to just two points after victories over Scunthorpe, Needham Market and Brackley Town – their game in hand – in just ten days.
Harriers’ latest victory over second-place Brackley came courtesy of Ashley Hemming’s early strike at St James Park on Tuesday night in front of 1,777 spectators. It was
Hemming’s 24th goal of the season adding to recent hat-tricks against South Shields and Needham Market.
Harriers and Brackley exchanged places in the table at full time with the Reds moving up to second following a second successive away win, while the Saints dropped to third after a second-successive home defeat.
Scunthorpe entertain Southport at the Attis Arena looking for their fifth straight victory and revenge for the 3-2 defeat inflicted on them by the Sandgrounders at the Big Help Stadium in October.
And they will also be hoping for another large crowd after last-week’s record-breaking 8,273 attendance for the top-of-the-table clash with Chester on Non-League Day. Scunthorpe brushed aside second-placed Chester 3-1 as they broke the previous Vanarama National League North record attendance of 8,036, set when Scunthorpe played Boston United last April.
Inconsistent Peterborough Sports arrive at Aggborough having lost 2-1 away at Marine last week after dispatching Darlington 4-1 at home seven days earlier, with Kidderminster favourites to secure all three points to add to their 1-nil victory over Sports at Pims Park in October.
Peterborough are ten points off the play-off places while eighteenth-place Southport still need to collect points to avoid being dragged into the relegation battle. Southport can take a step towards safety by taking three points off Scunthorpe on Saturday and in the process delight everyone at Aggborough.
