KURT Willoughby’s clinical strike could not prevent Kidderminster Harriers from suffering a 2-1 defeat against Solihull Moors in their final pre-season outing, writes Neil Gordon.
Harriers took an early lead against their National League opponents only for the visitors to score twice after the interval.
Willoughby added to his midweek strike against Halesowen, while Dan Mooney, Joe Foulkes and Jason Adigun also impressed.
However, Szhem Whyte-Hall’s acrobatic finish levelled the game for the visitors before Dan Creaney’s close-range header completed the turnaround.
A crowd of 902 were at Aggborough for a match where the multi-ball system was used ahead of next week’s league opener against Scarborough.
Willoughby put Kidderminster in front early on after he turned and rifled home a clinical finish from inside the box, following good play by Mooney.
The Reds played on the front foot throughout the first half but could not increase their lead despite creating numerous goalscoring chances.
The two teams traded chances after the break as Christian Dibble denied Creaney while Laurie Walker made a double save to twice keep out Adigun.
Solihull equalised on 68 minutes when Whyte-Hall hooked the ball home over his head from close range after Alex Whitmore’s header from a corner.
And Ben Worman almost completed the turnaround moments later when his free-kick from 18-yards out hit the post.
The visitors took the lead on 77 minutes when Whyte-Hall delivered a cross to the back post and Creaney headed home.
Harriers searched for an equaliser late on with Adam Murray’s side unable to carve out another clear-cut chance.
Kidderminster begin their league campaign with a home game against Scarborough Athletic on Saturday, August 9 with kick-off at 3pm at Aggborough.
