FOOTBALL - Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Summerfield suffers broken leg

KIDDERMINSTER Harriers midfielder Luke Summerfield will be out for a ‘sustained period’ after suffering a broken leg in his side’s FA Cup replay win against Buxton.

Summerfield sustained the injury just 10 minutes into Kidderminster’s 2-0 victory against Buxton at Aggborough Stadium in FA Cup Third Round Qualifying.

And Harriers boss Phil Brown has now confirmed Summerfield will be out of action for a significant period of time after the midfielder spent the night in hospital.

Brown said: “It’s worst-case scenario, really, Luke will be out for a sustained period and will be a big miss for us, he’s a great character in our changing room and a lovely man, one of the great guys I’ve worked with.

“The tackle came in a competitive game, it was one of those where one has gone in higher than the other, but I’ve got nothing to say about that, what’s more important is Luke’s rehabilitation and recovery.

“What he needs now is encouragement and support, and that’s what we’ve got to provide.

“It was nice to see two of the players who’d played in the game at the hospital with him last night and I know more have gone today; the camaraderie really is first class within the group.

“This really will bind us together under a common cause as we want to go out there now and do something for Luke.”
