The 27-year-old has spent his entire career in non-league football and won promotion from the National League North with York City in 2021/22.

Willoughby spent last season on loan at Kidderminster’s play-off foes Chester and left Oldham Athletic at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

The striker impressed in the lower reaches of non-league football with  Padiham, AFC Blackpool and Clitheroe at the start of his career.

He jumped up two levels to sign for FC United of Manchester in the National League North in May 2018.

Willoughby scored an impressive 18 goals in his only campaign with FC United despite the club suffering relegation.

He joined AFC Fylde in the National League ahead of the 2019/20 season as he scored two goals in 19 appearances.

The striker also spent time on loan at York and completed a permanent move to the Minstermen in June 2021.

He scored 11 goals in 54 appearances in all competitions as York achieved promotion to the National League via the play-offs.

However, York released Willoughby at the end of the season with the striker joining Chester in June 2022.

Willoughby scored 27 goals in 52 appearances as Chester suffered defeat in the National League North play-off semi-finals.

He returned to the National League with Oldham in June 2023 but only manged one goal for the Latics in 17 appearances.

The striker spent the rest of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Ayr United in the Scottish Championship.

He rejoined Chester on a season-long loan ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Willoughby started in Chester’s win against Harriers in the play-off semi-finals but could not help the Seals to promotion following defeat against Scunthorpe United in the final.
