KIDDERMINSTER Harriers have signed towering defender and former National League North winner Emeka Obi from AFC Fylde.

The 24-year-old played a key role in Fylde’s title win under current Harriers boss Adam Murray in the 2022/23 campaign.

Obi stands at 6ft 5in tall and has made more than 100 appearances for Fylde over the last four seasons.

Murray said: “We know what this league is about, you have to be very good in both boxes and, at six foot five, Meeks brings that as a basic.

“He’s very quick. For the way we would like to play, you need pace, and he’ll bring that.

“He’s only 24 years of age so he comes to us with a really hungry attitude after probably not playing as much as he would’ve liked at Fylde in the National League.

“He’s come with a point to prove and, like Pierce [Bird], when we won the league, he was a mainstay in it for us.

“He knows what it takes to get out of this division, and you can’t put a price on that.”

The centre-back spent time in Liverpool’s academy after making his senior debut for Bury in the EFL Trophy as a 15-year-old.

He later moved to Wigan Athletic where he made nine appearances in all competitions.

Following his departure from the Latics, Obi joined Fylde in February 2021 and helped the Lancashire club win the National League North title.
