PHIL Brown insists sitting top of the league table ‘counts for nothing’ as Kidderminster Harriers prepare to host Warrington Town this weekend.
Harriers moved top of the National League North standings following victory at Scarborough Athletic in midweek.
However, weekend opponents Warrington inflicted a first league defeat on Harriers earlier this season.
And Brown admits there is a score to settle against Warrington after tasting defeat at Cantilever Park back in August.
Brown said: “It counts for nothing [being top of the table] because you don’t win titles in December and January, you win them in April and May and that’s what we’re aiming for.
“It’s a building block process, the building is half built and we’re top of the pile, it means we’re the best team in the division at this stage of the season.
“It’s when you find out a little bit more about your players, can they handle the pressure and put up with the fact people are going to come here and be stubborn?
“Some players didn’t show up until after half time against Scarborough when push was coming to shove, I need that from minute one, if we’ve got that, we’ve got the right mentality to win the game.
“There’s a score to settle [with Warrington] to a certain extent, we didn’t really turn up in the second half at Warrington away.
“It was our first defeat of the season, it shows what this league does to you. If you don’t turn up and don’t play, you lose the game.”
Brown also praised the strength in depth of his squad but admits he hopes to bolster his squad at both ends of the pitch in the January transfer window.
Brown added: “I’m going to get paid for my job in the second half of the season by picking the right team often enough.
“The competition for places is brilliant and that’s what I wanted from minute one, I’ve now got it.
“I’m not saying I’ve got two players for every position but it’s not far off.
“We are [still looking to strengthen], we’re looking to bolster both ends of the pitch.”
Kidderminster entertain Warrington on Saturday, January 18 with kick-off at 3pm at Aggborough.
