SCULLERS of all ages descended upon Stourport Boat Club to take part in the 149th edition of the club’s annual regatta.

The event, which first took place in 1876, attracted a number of local clubs along with scullers from London and Truro among others.

More than a thousand rowers took to the water on the River Severn over two days of action.

Home club Stourport racked up 15 wins while neighbours Bewdley claimed eight victories.

Stourport Boat Club captain, Stewart Barnett said: “It was another brilliant regatta with loads of positive comments from our visitors on the friendly atmosphere and great organisation.

“Everyone chipped in and everything ran smoothly. All of us at the club feel proud to have helped run a highly successful regatta. It could be a record year.

“Thank you to everyone from me and the whole committee. I hope everyone enjoyed it whether racing or helping out.

“Amazingly we managed also managed another 15 wins – our best win tally of the season.

“There were some fantastic performances all round and once again it was great to see the whole of the club represented from the development squad, the junior squad and all the seniors and masters.”

The pick of Stourport’s wins saw the club’s junior squads triumph in the women’s eight race and the women’s 2x event.

And Bewdley’s junior under-17 quad claimed their first-ever race win at the regatta in a boat donated to them by a recently retired crew.
