THE NEW-LOOK Piano Building and Kidderminster Town Hall have both been shortlisted for a prestigious regional award in recognition of their recent regenerations.
The buildings have been named on the West Midlands regional shortlist in the refurbishment / revitalisation category at the 2026 RICS UK Awards.
The awards celebrate the UK’s most impactful built environment projects and the organisations delivering lasting change within their communities.
The Piano Building – the Grade II listed former carpet factory – takes its name from its distinctive grand piano shape when viewed from above. The building was also an education centre, before undergoing a major transformation to offer vibrant office and food and drink space designed for modern ways of working and collaboration.
The refurbishment works were carried out by Speller Metcalfe on behalf of Wyre Forest District Council and were completed late last year.
The nominations highlight the scale of investment and regeneration taking place across Kidderminster town centre.
Coun Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda, said: “Being shortlisted for a RICS Award is great recognition for everyone involved in bringing The Piano Building back to life.
“This project has transformed a historic landmark into a vibrant commercial destination that blends heritage with modern business and leisure opportunities.
“It demonstrates our commitment to investing in Kidderminster town centre and creating spaces that will support economic growth for years to come.”
Both The Piano Building and Kidderminster Town Hall projects benefited from funding through the Levelling Up Fund.
The RICS West Midlands Regional Awards ceremony takes place on June 26. The regional winners will then progress to the national UK Grand Final on October 22.
