TRIBUTES have been paid to a beloved Sumatran tiger from West Midlands Safari Park who passed away last Friday.
Bosses at the popular Bewdley attraction announced the death of Hujan who was almost 20 years old.
Born in September 2006, Hujan arrived at West Midlands Safari Park in 2011.
A statement from the Safari Park said: “It is with great sadness we share the news of the passing of the beloved Sumatran tiger, Hujan.”
They added it was an ‘exceptional age for a tiger’ and that her age-related health issues had caught up with her.
“She passed away surrounded by the team who cared for her throughout her time at the park.
“Hujan became a much-loved member of our Safari family.
“Over the past 15 years, she inspired countless guests and held a special place in the hearts of our keepers, who were privileged to care for her every day.
“Hujan will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her and her legacy will continue through the awareness she helped raise for her critically endangered species.”
Regulars to the Safari Park have also paid tribute to the tiger.
One said: “I am very sad for you all – you’ve clearly loved and cared for her all her life and she thrived – take comfort in that now and look at every precious photo you have and see that love.
“Run free now, beautiful Hujan.”
Another added: “So sad to hear of the loss of this magnificent tiger at 20 years old. Thank you for bringing joy and inspiration to so many.”
The safari park has urged anyone who has pictures of Hujan over the years to share them in the comments on a tribute post on the venue’s Facebook page.
