A MOTORIST from Kidderminster has been banned from driving for 12 months for prolific speeding and providing false details.
Anthony Gauntlett, age 54, of The Avenue, Waresley, wracked up speeding fines of more than £7,000 and 36 penalty points on his licence.
He was caught speeding on seven separate occasions in Worcestershire between March 2025 and February 2026.
On each occasion, instead of identifying the driver – as required by law – he tried to evade detection by providing false or incorrect information.
The case was heard at Kidderminster Magistrates Court after a full investigation.
Gauntlett was found guilty of seven Section 172 offences. As well as the 36 penalty points on his licence, he was given a year-long disqualification. And Gauntlett was ordered to pay a £4,620 fine, £770 in costs and a £2,000 victim surcharge.
West Mercia Police has a dedicated team which investigates all motoring related correspondence. It uses extensive police and commercial databases to identify false claims. These are then dealt with robustly through the courts.
A force spokesperson said: “Speeding is not a minor mistake, it’s a choice that puts lives at risk.
“We will continue to enforce the speed limit and investigate those who try to evade responsibility.”
