Lurcher dog found with 'horrible, gaping wound' in Kidderminster

Ryan Smith 2nd Dec, 2025

A DOG found in Kidderminster with a horrific, gaping wound is back on its feet.

Sparrow, a male Lurcher, was found in the Wyre Forest area with a wound, and Worcestershire Regulatory Services found him at a vet’s in Kidderminster.

The injury was clearly old, and the council service paid for emergency treatment provided by two vets.

The wound had to be stitched up, and the area around it was debrided due to the risk of infection.

But Sparrow is now recovering well and is staying in a foster home through a charity.

It is hoped he will be rehomed in a few weeks.

Senior Dog Warden Pip Griffin said: “It is upsetting that, in 2025, basic care is not being provided to so many of the dogs we have coming in as strays.

“If Sparrow had been taken to see a vet sooner, these upsetting circumstances could have been avoided.

“It is becoming unbearable to see strays ending up with numerous injuries and ailments that owners are not addressing.

“Fortunately, Sparrow’s recovery has gone well, and his leg injury has been healing brilliantly.

“Sparrow has also been fully vaccinated, wormed, and defleaed to protect him into the future.

“Currently, he is staying in a foster home through a charity and will be looking to be rehomed in a few weeks.”

Sparrow was one of two abandoned Lurchers seized by Worcestershire Regulatory Services’ Dog Warden team in just two weeks.

The other dog, Enid, was found in Worcester underweight and had bad scabies, causing her skin to itch and become sore.
