Kidderminster man jailed for attempted murder of former partner

Tristan Harris 22nd May, 2026

A KIDDERMINSTER man who attempted to murder his former partner has been jailed for 14 years.

Maxwell Drapkin, 37 of Mike Oborski Close, was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court today (Friday).

At an earlier hearing Drapkin pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation. He was then convicted following trial of attempted murder yesterday (Thursday).

The offences related to an incident which happened in Stourport-on-Severn on September 21 last year.

Drapkin attended his former partner’s address, where he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her to the floor. He then dragged her into the kitchen, continuing to strangle her before striking her to the head. She was taken to hospital with injuries to her head and eye.

The victim was able to flee her attacker climbing out of a window bare foot onto broken glass to seek help from neighbours.

Det Con Annabelle Davis said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack, which would have been terrifying for the victim.

“I would like to commend her for her bravery in coming forward to support the investigation, ensuring a violent offender is put behind bars.”

In a victim impact statement Drapkin’s former partner, who does not wish to be named, said: “I am devastated that everything that happened that night would tarnish any future I may have.

“I fear I will never be allowed to forget what happened to me and move on.

“Going to court to attend the trial was extremely difficult for me.

“It took weeks of support from my friends to build up the courage to stand up in front of strangers to talk about something that has deeply affected me personally in many ways.”
