THE FUTURE of some community football pitches in Kidderminster will be decided at a Wyre Forest District Council cabinet meeting on Thursday, July 9, writes Anna Hunt.
Members will be asked to decide whether the pitches in two parks – Brown Westhead Park and Habberley Road Sports Field – should be transferred to Worcestershire Football Association (WFA).
The next steps – negotiation and the potential completion of the deal – will also be set out.
The cabinet will be asked to agree the principle of transferring the pitches to enable the WFA to access external funding for them. This would hopefully secure their long-term future so they could continue to be used for community sport.
Wyre Forest District Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for finance and capital portfolio, Coun David Ross, said: “WFA through its subsidiary WFA Sports Facilities Ltd has occupied and managed Brown Westhead Park and Habberly Road Sports Field since 2014 under informal lease arrangements.
“Significant funding has been secured over £1.6million to help support improvements.
“The WFA has advised they intend to invest further in the site suggesting a positive future of the local football community.
“If approved by the cabinet, the next steps would be to work with Worcestershire FA to make progress.”
