A FUNDRAISER has been set up to help a brave 12-year-old Kidderminster boy with his recovery after he was diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of cancer.
Ellie Banner has set up a GoFundMe page to help support her brother Jack, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour around two months ago.
Ellie set up the GoFundMe around a month ago, with the aim being to raise £2,800 to aid her little brother’s journey to recovery.
So far, she has raised £2,600 towards her goal through over 130 donations.
Jack’s friends, Oliver Trow and Oscar Mannion, have joined in with the fundraising and will be shaving their hair off during their school assembly tomorrow (Friday) to raise funds towards his recovery.
So far, the youngsters have raised over £1,300 through their own GoFundMe page.
The youngsters urged people to donate and said that any support would mean a lot and help their mate Jack.
After his diagnosis, Jack underwent surgery and successfully had the tumour removed.
When his results came back, Jack’s family was informed that he had medulloblastoma Grade 4, a rare, aggressive form of cancer.
Jack is now having to go through Proton beam therapy, which uses a beam of high-energy protons rather than high-energy X-rays to treat highly specific types of cancer.
The 12-year-old will have to undergo this therapy for the next year, during which he will also have to take on chemotherapy.
However, his treatment will require a lot of travelling for Jack, as they are set to take place in London and Birmingham.
Ellie said: “We are not asking for much, only for us to be able to see our boy get better and so he can have the support and care he needs during and after his treatment.
“We’re grateful for whatever you can do to help him, and us get through this difficult period in life.
“Every single share and donation makes a difference and helps me get closer to my goal.”
Around 52 children are diagnosed with medulloblastoma each year in the UK.
It develops at the back of the brain but is likely to grow quickly.
