A FIGHTER from Mikey’s Boxing Gym (Kidderminster Boxing Club) has become an England Boxing National Youth champion.

Trey King came out on top in the youth under 62.5kg category at the England Boxing National Youth Championships.

The Championships took place in Rotherham at the Magna Science Adventure Centre.

King beat a former national champion to reach the final of the prestigious competition.

And he then faced Rico Wilson from TM Boxing in the final.

King boxed superbly to claim a unanimous 5-0 win to become a three-time national champion.

Club owner, Michael Mikolajczyk said: “We are so proud of him, he always works hard even through injuries and other factors he always puts in the extra work and deserves to be a champion.

“He has had some tough bouts with talented boxers over the last five weeks, including seven bouts, travelling hundreds of miles and beating four previous national champions to get to the final.

“Many of the biggest name boxers from England have competed for and won these titles so it is a massive achievement.

“This does not all happen overnight he has worked hard since he was seven-years-old, we would like to thank everyone that has helped and supported Trey no matter how big or small it is all appreciated.

“Thank you to all our coaches, gym members and family and friends.

“A few special thanks to coach Rob [Conway] who is always there for Trey and travelled hundreds of miles to do so – we couldn’t do it without him.

“And a special thanks to Trey’s family who have been there for him all the way through, giving up weekends to stay away.

“Well done champ we knew you could do it.”
