ADAM Murray admits Kidderminster Harriers ‘do not score enough goals’ following a home draw against Southport.
Only four teams have scored fewer goals than Kidderminster in the National League North this season.
A first-half goal from Charlie Cooper cancelled out Tom Moore’s early opener for the visitors at Aggborough with Harriers winless in their last four league games.
And Murray admits Harriers must address their issues in front of goal and challenged his forward players to turn their goalscoring form around.
Murray said: “The facts and the proof is in the pudding. We don’t score enough goals and that’s something that has to be addressed.
“It’s not easy. You’ve either got to go out and buy it because teams aren’t getting rid of goalscorers at this time of the season.
“We’re maxed out on our loans, we can’t bring a loan in unless we get rid of a loan. We’ll have to wait for that option to come up.
“The only other thing is free transfers and free transfers aren’t playing football so you’d have to get them in and get them fit.
“On paper we’ve got players who have scored goals at this level. The onus falls on them to put it in the back of the net. That’s their job.
“We get paid to do a job. If we weren’t creating chances then I’d be concerned. We’re missing that finishing touch and that’s been our Achilles heel all season.”
Harriers took to the pitch for the first time in 11 days owing to postponements due to heavy recent rainfall.
Murray refused to blame the break in fixtures for a below-par display but felt his side lacked tempo throughout.
Murray added: “It felt and looked like we’d not played for three years let alone however many days it’s been.
“That’s not an excuse, I said before the game I don’t want to be saying after the game we look a yard off it because we’ve not stayed in that rhythm.
“We’re still making certain errors that we’ve made repeatedly and that needs to be fixed.
“The biggest thing was we looked a yard off our normal tempo.
“We’re just not bringing that X factor, that end product and we’re missing that final ingredient.”
Kidderminster captain David Davis saw red late on after he hurled the ball away in frustration when already on a booking after committing a foul.
Murray called Davis’s actions ’embarrassing’ and confirmed the midfielder would suffer consequences following his dismissal.
Murray said: “I think it’s embarrassing.
“I’m frustrated, he knows, he’s an experienced player.
“I’ve given David a lot of credit and plaudits over the months I’ve been working with him.
“That’s not acceptable. There’ll be consequences for that because I’m not having that.”
Kidderminster are next in action against Marine on Tuesday, February 24 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Aggborough.
