FOOTBALL - Adam Murray admits Kidderminster Harriers should have put game to bed before Alfreton Town equaliser

ADAM Murray admits Kidderminster Harriers should have put the game to bed before conceding a late equaliser against Alfreton Town.

Harriers spurned a number of chances before and after taking the lead only for Alfreton to level the game at the death at the Impact Arena.

And Murray could not hide his frustration after his side conceded in injury time from a winning position for the third time this season.

Murray said: “It’s really difficult [to be positive]. I don’t think I’ve felt frustration like this in a long time.

“We’ve had enough chances in that game to win three games. The game has got to be put to bed. It’s that simple.

“Apart from the top two, we’ve lost the least games of anybody else in the league.

“But if we’re not going to score goals, we’re going to feel frustration like that.

“They’ve not laid a glove on us. The last 10 minutes we gave them opportunities to do what they’re good at.

“Players are slashing at the ball and kicking it forward. That’s just a rash mindset, that’s not what we’re asking people to do.”

After Tobi Sho-Silva’s first-half goal put Harriers ahead, Siyabonga Ligendza equalised for Alfreton seven minutes into injury time.

And Murray insists his team must find a way to put the ball in the back of the net more often after scoring just one goal in each of their last six matches.

Murray added: “I’m raging because it should be three points. We’re sitting fifth in the league and we’ve had three results like that now.

“We should competing in that top three and we’ve been bang average. We can’t keep doing that. We’re just killing ourselves.

“If we turn these draws into wins, we’re challenging for the title.

“It’s nothing to do with shapes, tactics or anything else. It’s about putting the ball in the net. It’s that simple.

“You can’t keep expecting defenders to keep grinding out in the last 10 minutes to try and get a clean sheet.

“The game should be done and it should be done at half time. We’re making our job harder than it has to be.”

Kidderminster are next in action against Bedford Town on Tuesday, November 4 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Aggborough.
