FOOTBALL - Adam Murray calls disallowed goal 'an embarrassment' as Kidderminster Harriers held to goalless draw by Merthyr Town

ADAM Murray called Kidderminster Harriers disallowed goal against Merthyr Town ‘an embarrassment’ after the teams played out a goalless draw.

Harriers thought they had broken the deadlock just past the hour mark when Ryley Reynolds’ corner appeared to travel directly into the net at Aggborough.

However, the referee ruled the goal out for a foul on Merthyr goalkeeper Jaimie Cogman with neither side able to find a breakthrough.

The result leaves Harriers fourth in the National League North table.

And Murray was scathing in his assessment of the standard of refereeing in the division this season.

Murray said: “In terms of the performance levels, I’m really pleased. My frustration comes from we should have had [four goals].

“And even more frustration comes from, when the ball did go in the net, it’s a goal. It’s embarrassing.

“When you’re in big games like that, you have to get the big calls right.

“He’s give the foul on the goalkeeper, we’ve not even touched him, the ball has gone straight in the net and that’s an embarrassment.

“Because you have an opinion, you get booked. As I’m walking over to shake his hand at the end of the game, his arrogance is: ‘don’t get yourself sent off’.

“He’s human, like all of us. We all make mistakes but the level of refereeing we’re seeing this season is just not good enough.”

Despite the draw Murray praised his side’s display and felt Harriers dominated their opponents who sit third in the table.

However, Murray felt too many chances went begging as the home side squandered a number of openings when well-placed in the box.

Murray added: “We’re in too much of a good place and the performance was too good to look at it as a negative.

“We’re going up against a team that’s been unbelievable all season. They’re above us in the league so we had no right to dominate them like we did.

“We had enough opportunities to win three games. We went really risky with the way we played. We wanted to make it a man-for-man game.

“We nicked the ball a lot, we got a lot of crosses into the box and they have to be goals.

“In the big games, you have to make sure you stay in them and to come out of it with a point and to be the better team, I’m pleased with that.

“All that was missing was the ball rolling over the line or rolling over the line and being given.”

Kidderminster are next in action against Darlington on Saturday, February 14 with kick-off at 3pm at Blackwell Meadows.
