FOOTBALL - Adam Murray criticises mentality of Kidderminster Harriers players after Buxton draw

ADAM Murray criticised the mentality of his Kidderminster Harriers players after his side conceded another last-minute goal in a draw against Buxton.

Harriers threw the points away for the second home game in succession as Buxton struck deep into injury time to deny the Harriers a win at Aggborough.

And while Murray insists he has a talented squad at his disposal, he insists the mentality of the group must change.

Murray said: “There’s no excuse. I am the first one that will always look at myself and I’ll always see where I can get better and what I can change.

“There’s some things you just can’t coach. People have to step up to the plate. You can’t lose points in three games in the last minute.

“I know where we should be in the league and the points we should have and that’s got to be fixed, there has to be a couple of tweaks.

“You can’t install and there’s nothing you can do on the grass for mentality. You’ve either got it or you haven’t.

“We’ve got a squad of very talented players, there’s quality in there, but we’ve not got enough mentality.

“That’s the bottom line. We can talk tactics, shapes and styles but if the mentality is not right you get a repeat of those last-minute goals when you should be winning games.”

Harriers also conceded late goals in a home draw against Macclesfield and a home victory against Leamington.

And Murray admits Harriers must improve their game management after failing to see out another three points.

Murray added: “I’m limited for words. There has to be consequences for some things that I just can’t accept.

“Both [game management and mentality], we’ve conceded last-minute goals in the last three home games.

“It can’t happen. We can’t see a game out. If people don’t do their jobs you get punished. It hurts desperately.

“There’s nothing in the game that we haven’t worked on. It’s people not doing their jobs or not being able to do their jobs which is worrying.

“We can’t put the ball in a good area and keep it up the pitch and then we’re making ridiculous fouls when there’s no need to.”

Kidderminster are next in action against Peterborough Sports on Saturday, October 4 with kick-off at 3pm at Lincoln Road.
