FOOTBALL - Adam Murray frustrated with Kidderminster Harriers performance despite late Leamington win

ADAM Murray could not hide his frustration despite Kidderminster Harriers scoring a dramatic injury-time winner to beat Leamington.

Harriers snatched a last gasp 3-2 victory against the Brakes following a 2-1 defeat at Murray’s former club AFC Fylde over the bank holiday weekend.

The results mean Harriers sit 10th in the National League North table, one point outside of the play-off places.

And Murray admitted he could not celebrate Kidderminster’s winner against Leamington due to his frustration with his side’s performance.

Murray said: “I’m happy that two thousand plus people got to share my frustration.

“I see so many good things in this team. I see so many positives. When they do what is asked of them and they perform to their ability and potential, we’re a really good team.

“But we’re not putting teams to the sword at the moment. We’re allowing teams the chance to stay in games and creating our own errors.

“Every single goal we’ve conceded has been an error. We’ve conceded five goals and four have been set-pieces.

“I’m pleased with three points but I was that frustrated that I couldn’t even celebrate the winner.

“It’s not where I need it or want it to be and it’s not where the players want it to be because I know how much they want it.

“We’re making so many little errors that end up costing you.”

Ryley Reynolds grabbed a 98th-minute winner for Harriers against the Brakes after a Theo Streete own goal and Jordan Tunnicliffe’s strike put the home side in command.

Harriers let a two-goal lead slip late on before Reynolds scored a last gasp winner and Murray wants his team to adopt a ruthless mentality in future matches.

Murray added: “We’ve shown the mentality that we’ll go to the last minute and credit to the players for that.

“But I can’t do that for the rest of the season. We need more. There’s little bits that are not up to where we need it yet.

“That’s a championship mentality, that’s a ruthless mentality, that’s done, you put it to bed.

“A last-minute winner is always great but I can’t say it’s a great performance.

“It was 45 minutes I was over the moon with and 45 minutes I’m confused with.

“I don’t think it’s a football thing, I think it’s a mentality thing and I need to work out why.”

Kidderminster are next in action against Curzon Ashton on Saturday, August 30 with kick-off at 3pm at the Tameside Stadium.
