FOOTBALL - Adam Murray insists he is building more than just a new mentality at Kidderminster Harriers

ADAM Murray insists he is building more than just a new mentality at Kidderminster Harriers as the club prepare to travel to Peterborough Sports this weekend.

Harriers find themselves sixth in the National League North table after nine matches, seven points behind early league leaders South Shields.

Murray has lost just one league game in charge of the club and also suffered defeat in the FA Cup against divisional rivals AFC Telford United.

Kidderminster conceded late on in their last outing against Buxton, a theme which has plagued a number of the club’s home fixtures this season.

And while Murray repeated the need for Harriers to develop a new mentality he also wants to create a different culture at the club aimed at long-term success.

Murray said: “I owe the supporters an apology for the second-half performance [against Buxton]. I won’t accept that.

“That wasn’t a performance that I stand by. Just the mindset of how we went about the second half is not me and not this team.

“We’ve learnt an awful lot in these nine games. I’m trying to break a mindset, we want to set a new way at this club.

“We’re not just building a team who wants to win promotion. We are resetting the football club and putting a lot of things in place.

“There’s a new mentality being built. We’re our own worst enemy but all of that has accumulated to some great learning but as always it’s about action.

“There’s a new way this club is going and we’re going to force it and push it. There’s always casualties but I want to challenge for promotion.

“But I want the football club to continue to grow, produce its own players and be successful consistently.”

Harriers took a break from action last weekend with no scheduled fixture for Murray’s side.

And Murray admits Kidderminster have work to do if they are to compete at the very top end of the table.

Murray added: “[The break] has allowed us to have a little bit of reflection time and put some real work in on the training ground.

“We’re at where we deserve to be. At the minute we’re a play-off team. We’ve not been good enough to hit the top one or two [places].

“We’re 90 seconds away from being two points off top and sitting in second. I’m actually glad we are where we are.

“If we do manage to get those games over the line, I think it masks some bits that have not been good enough.

“I’d rather know now where we’re at and what we need to work on.”

Kidderminster travel to Peterborough on Saturday, October 4 with kick-off at 3pm at Lincoln Road.
