FOOTBALL - Adam Murray left 'shocked' by Kidderminster Harriers performance in heavy Macclesfield defeat

A ‘SHOCKED’ Adam Murray apologised to the Kidderminster Harriers supporters following a heavy midweek defeat against Macclesfield.

Harriers came crashing back down to earth following the club’s FA trophy victory against National League side Halifax Town last weekend.

Kidderminster trailed by three goals at the break before Joe Foulkes reduced the deficit only for Macclesfield to score twice more at Moss Rose.

The defeat brought an abrupt end to Kidderminster’s 12-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

And Murray wants to wipe the defeat from his mind as quickly as possible and is keen to embark on another unbeaten run.

Murray said: “It was my worst concern, all my concerns came rushing out in 45 minutes.

“All we can do is apologise. We were absolutely way off it, too many people didn’t turn up.

“That is what happens when you go off script. We’ve gone 12 unbeaten from sticking to gameplans and people doing their jobs.

“I don’t know why people went off script. I don’t know the answer for that.

“I didn’t expect it, I don’t think anybody expected it. I’m in a little bit of shock.

“I’ll take from it what I can but I’m going to forget it really quickly and wipe it from my brain.

“It’s on to the next one now to start the next run.”

D’Mani Mellor scored a hat-trick for the home side while James Edmondson netted a brace as Harriers lost in the league for the first time since November.

The game took place on Macclesfield’s 4G pitch and Murray admits Harriers struggle to play their best football on the surface but stopped short of making any excuses for the defeat.

Murray added: “I want to say no [whether Harriers struggle to play on 4G pitches].

“But the proof in the pudding is yes. It is different, it slows the game down for us.

“But it doesn’t stop you making good decisions, defending one versus one, winning battles and fights and winning races.

“In the first 45 minutes we were shook and every single goal we’ve given them.

“I was going to change three or four players after 15 minutes. It was an absolute car crash.”

Kidderminster are next in action against Spennymoor Town on Saturday, February 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Brewery Field.
