FOOTBALL - Kidderminster Harriers pegged back by 101st-minute goal in Macclesfield draw

A CONTROVERSIAL goal conceded deep in added time consigned Kidderminster Harriers to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Macclesfield, writes Neil Gordon.

Luke Spokes put the Reds ahead after the interval only for Danny Elliott to level during extended time in added time to leave the home side fuming.

Kidderminster conceded a stoppage time equaliser for the second home game running after fine wins at Curzon Ashton and King’s Lynn Town.

This result sees Kidderminster sit sixth in National League North table on 15 points as a crowd of 3,007 at Aggborough watched the Reds extend their unbeaten run at home to four games.

Kidderminster failed to trouble the visitors in the first half with Joe Foulkes’ low shot whistling past the post and George Walker’s curled attempt gathered by the keeper.

And Emeka Obi deserved better when he dispatched a shot over the bar after pouncing on a loose ball.

After the interval Kai Innocent superbly found Foulkes who hit the side netting as Harriers went on the attack.

The opening goal arrived on 55 minutes when Spokes scored with a downward volley from the edge of the box which evaded Macclesfield goalkeeper Max Dearnley.

And Ryley Reynolds could have increased the lead but his superb chip went agonisingly over the bar, with Harriers made to rue their failure to find a second goal.

At 90 minutes an additional eight minutes stoppage time was added, which was then increased due to a Macclesfield injury and substitution.

However, the referee showed no signs of ending proceedings and Elliott took advantage to score a 101st-minute equaliser and send the Silkmen ecstatic while condemning Harriers to total disbelief.

Kidderminster travel to AFC Telford United in the FA Cup on Saturday, September 13 with kick-off 3pm at New Bucks Head.
