FOOTBALL - Kidderminster Harriers promoted to National League after play-off final victory

KIDDERMINSTER Harriers have secured promotion to the National League following a 2-0 play-off final victory against South Shields.

Harriers return to the National League after two seasons in the National League North as boss Adam Murray achieved promotion in his first campaign at the helm.

South Shields had home advantage in the final by virtue of finishing above Harriers in the National League North table.

However, Harriers stunned the league runners-up with two quickfire goals in the first half as Kieren Donnelly and Charlie Cooper put the visitors in command at the 1st Cloud Arena.

Donnelly headed Harriers into the lead on 33 minutes as he guided George Walker’s hanging cross into the net at the back post.

And Kidderminster stunned the home side with a second goal two minutes later as Cooper saw his shot deflect into the net.

Harriers kept South Shields at bay in the second half to clinch promotion in style and avenge their play-off defeat from the previous campaign.
