FOOTBALL - Kidderminster Harriers ship five goals in heavy defeat at Macclesfield

KIDDERMINSTER Harriers saw their 12-game unbeaten run come to an abrupt end following a heavy 5-1 defeat away at Macclesfield.

Harriers found themselves three goals behind at the break before Joe Foulkes reduced the deficit in the second half at Moss Rose.

However, D’Mani Mellor completed his hat-trick after the break while James Edmondson scored a brace as Harriers suffered their joint heaviest defeat of the season.

The result means Kidderminster sit fourth in the National League North table, seven points clear of the chasing pack in the race for a play-off place.

Harriers made the worst possible start when former Manchester United youngster Mellor opened the scoring on nine minutes from Luke Duffy’s cross.

And the home side doubled their lead on 20 minutes as Edmondson produced a fine solo run and finish to leave Harriers stunned.

Macclesfield struck again on 37 minutes as Mellor scored his second of the game with a close-range finish at the back post.

Harriers boss Adam Murray made a triple substitution at half time as Kam Kandola, Seb Thompson and Ashley Hemmings all made their way onto the pitch.

And the substitutions paid dividends on 58 minutes when Thompson and Hemmings combined to find Foulkes who found the net at the second attempt.

However, the Silkmen restored their three-goal advantage on 67 minutes as Mellor completed his hat-trick on the rebound after Christian Dibble kept out Edmondson’s initial effort.

Macclesfield rubbed salt in the wounds nine minutes into injury time when Edmondson completed the scoring as Harriers lost in the league for the first time since November.

Kidderminster are next in action against Spennymoor Town on Saturday, February 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Brewery Field.
