FOOTBALL - Kidderminster Harriers Women battle to derby win at Stourbridge

Aaron Sutcliffe 17th Sep, 2025

AMBER Lawrence hopes Kidderminster Harriers Women can ‘push on’ following a 1-0 derby win against Stourbridge.

Lawrence captained Harriers to a narrow victory at the War Memorial Athletic Ground as Niamh Deasy’s goal proved decisive.

The victory hands Kidderminster their second win of the season with Harriers seventh in the National League Division One Midlands table while Stourbridge remain bottom.

And skipper Lawrence wants Harriers to play with more confidence on the ball ahead of a trip to Barnsley this weekend.

Lawrence said: “It meant a lot to a lot of people at Kidderminster. Both teams battled it out.

“I wouldn’t actually say that one side was better than the other but most importantly we pressed at the right time and got the goal.

“The conditions were difficult but it was a fantastic pitch given the rain which didn’t stop from minute one to minute 90.

“It was a proper football game with slide tackles. It had everything you want from a local derby.

“We’ve come away with the three points and I’m really happy with that. I hope we can take the momentum from this result into our next game.

“We’ve had an up and down start in terms of results. We’ve had some really good displays where we feel we probably should have come away with more than what we’ve got.

“Their position in the league doesn’t reflect how they played. They battled hard and we panicked at times and didn’t play our free-flowing football.

“I think the occasion got to us at times but this is the stepping stone. We’ve got six points in the league, it’s time for us to push on and get some good results under our belts.

“I want us to start being confident with playing football instead of panicking a little bit when we’ve got the ball.

“We’re more than capable as individuals across the pitch and we’re starting to gel. It’s a really important result.”

The game’s only goal came on 55 minutes when Millie Rogers won the ball from the Stourbridge goalkeeper and Deasy found the net.

Kidderminster travel to Barnsley on Sunday, September 21 with kick-off at 2pm at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.
