FOOTBALL - Paul Wotton insists 'patience is a virtue' as Kidderminster Harriers target new signings

PAUL Wotton admits ‘patience is a virtue’ for Kidderminster Harriers in the transfer market as he continues to shape his squad for the 2026/27 season.

Harriers have signed three players in the off season so far with Max Brogan, Ben Crompton and Callum Dolan all making the switch to Aggborough next term.

Wotton faces a busy summer at Harriers after the club lost 17 players from the previous campaign despite achieving promotion.

However, Wotton insists the club most hold its nerve when negotiating deals with players so early in the transfer window.

Wotton said: “It’s been very busy, I’m having to charge my phone a couple of times a day but it’s a good busy.

“Recruitment is obviously key at this stage of the season, it’s just making sure we get the right people through the door.

“It’s definitely a case of patience is a virtue, there’s a lot of wage demands that are inflated and as time goes on those demands will become lower.

“It can be a game of poker, we’ve just got to hold our nerve. We know what positions we need players in.

“You won’t complete your squad now and players are also holding their nerve as well, the players we’re after will have more than one offer.

“Previous jobs, I’ve taken over with no players and it can feel daunting and a little bit scary but I’m used to it.”

The club retained nine players from the 2025/26 season including influential midfielder David Davis.

And Wotton only wants to add good characters to the existing playing staff at the club.

Wotton added: “I’m really happy with what is contracted already, they’re good players who had a marvelous season last year.

“It’s important they carry that momentum into next season and they’ll be absolutely imperative to anything we’re trying to achieve.

“They’re good people, good characters and good players as well. If they’re not good people then they’re not going to be at the club.

“You have to have good people around you, they can have an edge on the pitch, but I want that grit and determination on the pitch.”
