STOURPORT Hockey Club’s men’s first team struggled in defeat against Oxford Hawks after taking a squad of only 13 players.

Oxford claimed a 7-2 victory and raced into a three-goal lead by the 25-minute mark.

Stourport scored their first goal from a short corner on 63 minutes through Daniel Dew.

Oxford added a further four goals before Stourport struck from another short corner courtesy of Leo Delves.

Elsewhere, Stourport’s men’s second XI lost 5-1 away at Shrewsbury 1sts.

Neither side could break the deadlock in a competitive first half while Stourport lost Phil Baldwin to injury late in the first period.

Stourport struggled to match Shrewsbury’s physicality after the break as the home side scored three well-worked goals.

The visitors pulled a goal back only for Shrewsbury to score two more goals late on.

And Stourport’s women’s first XI lost 3-1 away at Oxford Hawks 1sts.

Both teams spurned chances in the opening quarter before a couple of quickfire goals put Oxford in command.

Stourport halved the deficit when Lucy Walton converted a short corner only for Oxford to seal the points with a third goal moments later.
