STOURPORT Hockey Club’s respective teams could only manage draws and defeats in their latest outings.

The club’s men’s 2nd XI played out a goalless draw with Newport 1sts in the Midlands Men’s Division Four West at the Kingsway.

Stourport had the better of the play throughout the match and played with a high tempo although the home side’s goalkeeper also made a number of crucial saves.

Elsewhere, the men’s third XI drew 2-2 away at Barford Tigers 3rds in Midlands South Division Six.

Barford had the ball in the net after just three minutes only to see the goal ruled out but eventually took the lead following a succession of short corners.

However, Stourport equalised before the break when Munashe Nhongo bundled the ball over the line.

And the visitors completed the turnaround in the second half when David Stokes produced a clinical finish into the bottom corner from a short corner routine.

Barford piled on the pressure in search of a leveller and found a way through with a powerful first time shot from the penalty spot.

Stourport’s men’s 4th XI lost 5-2 against Harborne 5ths in Midlands South West Division Seven.

The visitors raced into a two-goal lead before Tom White halved the deficit before the break.

Harborne pounced on a loose pass to restore their two-goal cushion only for Tom Wood’s strike to keep Stourport in the contest.

However, the away side scored two further goals despite late pressure from the hosts.

Stourport’s women’s first XI suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat away at Cambridge University in the Midlands Women’s Conference League.

Cambridge led by two goals after the first quarter of the match before Sophie Thompson found the net for Stourport.

However, Cambridge struck twice more before half time to leave Stourport with a mountain to climb after the interval.

Penalty corner goals from Laura Price and Holly Smith reduced the deficit to a single goal with Stourport just unable to find an equaliser in the remaining minutes.
