STOURPORT Hockey Club’s men’s first XI lost 3-0 against Leek to suffer their first defeat of the new Conference Midlands season.
Leek took the lead from a penalty corner and doubled their advantage midway through the second quarter.
Stourport improved in the third quarter only for Leek to extend their lead and take the game out of the away side’s reach.
Stourport are next in action against University of Birmingham 2nds on Saturday, October 4 at 6pm.
Elsewhere, Stourport women’s first XI also suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at Cambridge City 1sts in the Conference Midlands.
Neither side managed to break the deadlock in the first three quarters before Cambridge struck twice in quick succession from a long ball and a penalty corner.
Stourport pulled a goal back late on but could not find an equaliser despite sustained pressure at the death.
The club’s women’s first XI play away at University of Birmingham 2nds on Saturday, October 4 at 4pm.
Stourport women’s 2nd XI battled to a 1-0 win against Nottingham University 3rds in Midlands Division One.
The home side defended a series of short corners early on before scoring the game’s only goal in the second half.
Elsewhere, the men’s second XI lost 5-1 against Birmingham University in their season opener in Midlands Division Four West.
A trio of short corner goals put Birmingham in command before a strike on the counter attack extended the home side’s lead.
A debut goal for a Stourport player reduced the deficit only for Birmingham to score for the fifth time late on.
Stourport men’s third XI claimed a 3-1 victory against Solihull Blossomfield 1sts in Midlands Division Six South West.
And the men’s fourth XI drew 0-0 against Olton and West Warwickshire in Midlands Division Seven South West
Neither team could break the deadlock in an end-to-end affair to share the points.
