HOCKEY - Stourport Hockey Club's masters side thrash Lichfield

Aaron Sutcliffe 16th Jan, 2026

STOURPORT Hockey Club’s men’s masters side romped to a 7-0 victory against Lichfield following a second-half blitz.

Stourport led by two goals at the break and scored five times in the second period to seal a comprehensive victory.

The club’s over-55s proved too strong for Lichfield in the National Cup fixture.

Lichfield deployed a defensive strategy which included putting 10 players behind the ball at times.

However, despite some fine saves from the visiting goalkeeper, Stourport eventually made the breakthrough on 20 minutes when Dom Roberts produced a cool finish.

And Martin Oates finished off a flowing team move before the break to double Stourport’s lead.

The home side struck again after the interval as David Knott’s incisive pass left the Lichfield goalkeeper stranded and allowed Tom White to finish from close range.

Knott then grabbed a goal for himself before White finished off a quick passing move to make it five.

And Knott scored his second of the game late on before Neil Farquharson completed the scoring.

Stourport will face a sterner test in the next round when they entertain Oxford Hawks in early February.
