HOCKEY - Stourport Hockey Club's men held to draw while women suffer defeat

STOURPORT Hockey Club’s men’s first team were held to a draw while the women’s side suffered defeat on the road.

The men’s first team drew 1-1 against University of Nottingham in the Midlands Conference League to conclude the first half of their season.

Stourport had four key players missing though injury which saw the club handed a debut to a teenager academy product.

The visitors weathered an early storm from Nottingham as the game remained goalless at the break.

And Stourport broke the deadlock in the third quarter as captain Andy Cavendish converted a penalty corner.

However, Nottingham equalised just two minutes later.

And the hosts went in search of a winner only for Cavendish and Will Oakley to produce vital clearances.

Elsewhere, Stourport’s women’s first team lost 2-0 away at Leicester City in the Midlands Conference League.

Stourport kept Leicester at bay for large periods of the match only for the home side to strike twice in the final quarter
