STOURPORT Hockey Club’s men’s second XI battled to a 4-3 away win at Olton and West Warwickshire to all but save themselves from relegation.

Stourport fell behind early on as Olton reacted quickest to score from two penalty corners.

However, two goals from William Murray in the space of five minutes sent Stourport in level at the break.

And Phil Baldwin’s goal completed the turnaround in the second half before another strike put Stourport two goals ahead.

Olton pulled a goal back from another penalty corner but Stourport held on to claim the points.

Elsewhere, the club’s women’s first team played out a 1-1 draw against Birmingham University 2nds.

The first half proved a cagey affair as Stourport held firm despite Birmingham enjoying plenty of possession.

The game remained goalless at the break before Birmingham made the breakthrough 10 minutes into the second period following sustained pressure on the Stourport goal.

However, Stourport swung the momentum of the game in their favour and drew level when Laura Price pounced on a mistake by the Birmingham goalkeeper.

And a string of saves from Stourport keeper Fran Walker ensured the home side came away with a point.
