STOURPORT Hockey Club’s respective teams played their final matches before the Christmas break.

The club’s men’s second XI ended the year with a commanding 5-2 victory against joint leaders Stratford 2nds in the Midlands Division Four West.

Stourport opened the scoring when the returning Adam Leeke diverted a driven ball into the net via the aid of a deflection.

The home side doubled their lead soon after with a precise shot into the bottom corner from a short corner.

Stratford halved the deficit before the break before a Stourport player intercepted a pass and produced a composed finish to restore the home side’s two-goal cushion.

And Leeke, returning from a serious brain injury, doubled his tally for the game with a powerful effort from another short corner.

Stourport struck again with a finish into the top corner after Stratford responded with a consolation goal.

The men’s third XI spurned a number of chances in a 1-1 draw against Birmingham in the Midlands Division Six South West.

An open play goal from Munashe Nhongo put Stourport ahead only for Birmingham to equalise soon after.

Stourport’s men’s fourth XI suffered a 4-2 defeat against Pershore 1sts in Division Seven South West.

Pershore took the lead after just seven minutes and added two more goals before the 20-minute mark.

Stourport eventually reduced the deficit after the break only for Pershore to score their fourth goal virtually straight from the restart.

And a goal from Tom White proved merely a consolation for Stourport in the final four minutes.

Elsewhere, Stourport’s under-16 boys team travelled to Wolverhampton for a Midlands indoor competition.

The team finished second overall behind Repton after producing a number of fine performances across five matches.
